The project’s greatest challenge was undoubtedly the management of water and soil decontamination. Thanks to Hardy Construction’s expertise in civil engineering, the process was carried out in accordance with the criteria and requirements of the Ministry of the Environment—from excavation to storage and transportation to the treatment site.

The first phase of this civil engineering project involved paving Route de l’Hydro and Chemin Veillette—a total of 6.5 km—to serve as a detour for residents. This was followed by the excavation and transport of 40,000 metric tons of contaminated soil to a treatment facility. The sanitary and storm sewer system was extended by 300 meters, and the water mains were replaced. A 4,100 m³ layer of lightweight backfill was installed, surrounded by a 9,000 m² 40-mil geomembrane serving as a barrier against contaminants.
Throughout the project, contaminated water was treated, and a detour handling 10,000 vehicles per day was managed.
