The implementation of more than 13,000 m³ of arctic concrete was the core of this broad mandate. Made for the start of the Meliadine gold mine, 25 km from Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, these foundations had to deal with permafrost and extreme temperatures, requiring uncompromising technical rigour.

This $10 million project for Agnico Eagle Mines was designed to build the foundations needed to start the Meliadine mine, one of Canada's largest gold deposits.

The scale of the work required the implementation of nearly 2,000 metric tonnes of reinforcing steel and more than 13,000 m³ of concrete, all orchestrated in a northern environment with considerable logistical constraints.

As the supply of materials depends primarily on seasonal marine refuelling, each step has been carefully planned to meet the tight timelines leading to the start-up of the mine in 2019.
