The placement of more than 13,000 m³ of concrete under Arctic conditions was at the heart of this large-scale project. Built for the start-up of the Meliadine gold mine, located 25 km from Rankin Inlet in Nunavut, these foundations had to contend with permafrost and extreme temperatures, requiring uncompromising technical precision.

This $10 million project, carried out for Agnico Eagle Mines, involved the construction of the foundations necessary for the start-up of the Meliadine Mine, one of Canada’s largest gold deposits.
The scale of the work required the installation of nearly 2,000 metric tons of reinforcing steel and more than 13,000 m³ of concrete, all carried out in a northern environment with significant logistical challenges.
Since the supply of materials depended primarily on seasonal maritime shipments, each stage was meticulously planned to meet the tight deadlines leading up to the mine’s start of production in 2019.
